How bout some fabrication for the masses?!
| I read an article/write-up on jeepforum.com in the fabrication section recently that I really enjoyed, so I sent off a private message to the author and asked for permission to post it here… and here it is! Thanks geauxturbo. |

This mod seems to be so popular, I decided to post it up here. Getting alot of requests so please be patient if you have any questions. From the time I could first drive, I wanted one thing… that’s right, a Hula Girl on my dash. Being in Baton Rouge and that the nearest surf shop was 1200 miles away, it just never seemed to happen. Then came father’s day 2007. My lovely wife, knowing my desire for the Hula Girl, made her journey onto the intraweb and found what her hubby and father of her two wonderful boys so much wished to have… a super hawt hula girl shakin’ her tushey in my Jeep. She spared no expense and had shipped from Hawaii itself, a super hawt Hula Girl by the name of Leilani. Now, for some reason, the automakers (Chrysler in this case) didn’t seem to fully understand the need for a proper spot for a sexy hula girl on the dash. I was dismayed… now where was there a spot for Leilani to dance elegantly along as I traveled in my Jeep? Also, Stu has NO HULA GIRL write-ups on his webpage.. whats up with that? Stu, I give you permission to use my write-up since this seems to be a first and very pimp fabrication project. I expect to see a Leilani on your dash by the end of the year. Anyway, I used all my mastered fabrication skillz to create her a home. I have documented this momentous occasion so that you too may have a Hula Girl on your dash! Find an appropriate place on your roll cage to attach your hawt Hula Girl. If you don’t have a roll cage, you’re not ready for this mod. Only the hardest of the corest can handle a Hula Girl on their dash (I’m talking nipple deep in hardcore here folks). Find some 3/16″ plate… I know it seems overkill… but its Jeep fabrication and overkill is only way to approach the problem. I used 1/8″ for the supports but I’m sorta second guessing my decision. Only time will tell if she survives the punishment of hardcore wheelin’ Measure twice, cut once… that’s what momma told me.. Dad sucked at building stuff. I got out my trusty grinder and performed some precise cutting of the plate. My roll bar is 1.75″ or 1.5″ or something like that DOM tube. So, it was imperative I got the radius JUST RIGHT. I used a sippy cup to draw the radius for just the right circumference I was looking for. Then cut. Then I welded the supports onto the base for Leilani. I know it looks kind of like the Starship Enterprise. Well, we’re going where no man has gone before, baby! Its fitting, I think. Test fit your hula girl once again.. Don’t want to be disappointed in the end. I then welded the base onto the crossbar of my roll cage. I took about 5 or 6 measurements and used an angle finder to be certain it was perfectly centered. No room for error here folks! I then painted it with Rustoleum Gloss Black ENAMEL… enamel is important.. it has to withstand the abuse of a hawt Hula Girl shakin’ her thang. Don’t skimp on the paint. Notice the blue tarp… brown will suffice but blue is where it’s at. Let your Hula Girl check out the newly attached base. She must approve your gorilla snot welds before being gently placed onto her eternal romping place. Remove the sticky tape from her base and place her on the stand. I prefer her looking right at me. That way I am the center of attention. I need to feel the love. Silhouetted ever so elegantly against the background And a final view from the passenger side Now, I hope this was detailed enough for you to be able to reproduce your own dance platform for your Hula Girl in your very own rig. Feel free to PM me with any questions you may have. If I ever see up her skirt, I think I’m in a world of shit…. Oh, it ain’t Hula without a lil’ shake -geauxturbo |
